I start the day highly anxious and I thought I would share with you how I use worry beads to cope with this intense pressure. The first mechanism isn’t worry beads, it is a good hard work out down
the gym. Hard exercise gives me a boost of endorphin which helps my mood and make the day look better than it was.
I suppose if I could afford the time, and had the energy, I could workout all day to help cope but this is just not possible and it is where worry beads come into their own. I wake with tingling in my fingers and a feeling of dread that I will not be able to cope with what the World will throw at me. Before I started using worry beads this anxiety would grow during the day and depending on the sort of day I had was whether I “crashed and burnt” or survived. What worry beads do for me is make me slow down. I take time to think through solutions about potential issues I will face and thus makes the day look achievable without an anxiety attack occurring. As I am typing this, my thoughts are very slow as I mimic the speed at which I use my beads. My hands have stopped shaking and although I am not looking forward to the day ahead I feel I shall be able to control it, not it control me.
Even if you hate the idea of worry beads, try this slow thinking process at the start of the day and see if it helps. With myself, worry beads give me a strong image in my mind built up from watching and feeling them so that the transition from anxious to calm is achieved that much quicker. You can design your own using our design service Design your own worry beads.
An interesting way of looking at my life is that my natural state is that of being highly anxious and the calm person I become after using worry beads is the person I create, which is the person I want and need to be. If you are similar to me I hope this has helped.
